Antiseptics can be either bacteriocidal or bacteriostatic. Bacteriocidal antiseptics destroy microbes, while bacteriostatic antiseptics inhibit their reproduction. Uses of antiseptics

Antiseptics are mainly used in the field of medicine and health, particularly for surgeries and operations. As a matter of fact, ancient Greek and Sumerian physicians who lived thousands of years ago advocated the use of antiseptics. In modern times, antiseptics are still used by doctors to disinfect their hands, their equipment, and even the portion of the body of the patient which they will be operating on. Antiseptics, the most common of them being alcohol, are also used in food preservation and even in the embalming of the dead!

There are a variety of antiseptic products, like antiseptic liquids, antiseptic ointment, and antiseptic spray. There are also antiseptic lotions and antiseptic hand creams, for those who are conscious of the effect on their skin. As for those who are always on the go, there are antiseptic wipes and antiseptic towelettes for easy disinfection in case of an emergency anywhere and anytime.
